About the project
HiMingle was originally conceived as a resource platform for community builders.
The platform was to include:
- A catalog of tools and platforms useful for community building.
- A blog for aspiring community managers on how to build a community, where to start and what to look out for.
Later, after we implemented these functionalities, we added a directory of online communities to the platform for those looking for communities of interest.
Challenges
The challenges encompassed various aspects of web development, user experience design, content management, and system integration, making HiMingle a complex and multifaceted project.
The main challenges are:
- Automation of Approval Process: We needed to devise a quick and cost-effective way to automate the process of approving or rejecting applications for adding tools or communities to the portal's directories.
- SEO Optimization: A major focus was on search engine optimization, requiring us to make the site search engine friendly to improve visibility and organic traffic.
- Scalability: Designing a system that could handle a growing number of entries in both directories (tools and communities) without compromising performance.
- Data Security: Ensuring the security of user data, especially with the implementation of user accounts and personal information.
- Performance Optimization: Maintaining fast load times and smooth performance, particularly for the directory pages which may contain large amounts of data.
